Description
EXPERIENCE Personal projects and consulting April 2023 – Present
• Developed a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) with a Code Interface. Traditional DAWs have
complicated GUIs, which require lots of clicking to create and edit music. I designed my own
which has an interface completely in code where a song is a matrix of sine waves and musical notes
are added through code. This allows one to quickly create reusable beats as functions and
transform the pitch (frequency) and intensity (amplitude) through other functions maximizing
reusability.
• Worked on a college comparison website using django and altair.
• Consulted and wrote programs to archive and execute macros for excel functions.
• Experimenting running local large language models such as llama, qwen coder, deepseek, and
gemma on my local PC with a GeForce RTX 3090.
Google Software Engineer III December 2019 – March 2023
• Designed and implemented an interface for external facing customers to import road toll fees into
Google Maps.
• Implemented the ability to hot swap remote procedural calls for backend endpoints to custom
endpoints in Google Web Server, which powers the frontend of Google Search.
• Set up Google standard production infrastructure for a new evaluation service for Google Search.
This includes service wide exception logging, integration testing, canary testing, service level
indicator (SLI) measurements, service level objectives (SLO) monitoring, and the refactoring of
migrating to a new standard interface.
• Participated in on-call rotations and authored documentation to accelerate new hire onboarding.
• Interviewed over 50 candidates.
Google Software Engineer II May 2018 – December 2019
• Optimized Google Flume directed acyclic graph data processing pipeline down from 13 hours to 4
hours that was used to analyze Google Maps logs.
• Took ownership for testing and integrating a new data signal for routing on historical data to
optimize routing and directions for Google Maps by setting-up data pipelines.
• Load tested and optimized Google Spanner database when building out a new service to improve
Google Maps routing and directions.
• Added privacy checks to internal data workflows to protect user privacy.
• Helped develop a core abstract framework for integrating multiple signals using navigation data to
aggregate multiple data signals into a unified signal for improving Maps user directions.
• Designed and implemented additional metrics to continuously monitor core database metrics and
alarm when customer-facing metrics like latency increased.
• Designed and implemented cron jobs to backfill data from internal Maps data workflows to keep
internal database up to date.
• Optimized internal server processing with batching to save compute costs.Mark Pundmann

Amazon Web Services (AWS) Software Development Engineer II October 2017 – May 2018
Hardware Monitoring
• Wrote and led design proposals to meet required service level agreements to onboard new internal
customers.
• Lead engineer working with Elastic Block Storage to develop solutions that satisfy their hardware
monitoring requirements.
AWS Software Development Engineer I, Hardware Monitoring February 2016 - September 2017
• Gathered customer requirements from different teams, proposed architectural solution and finalized
one with my team through feedback. I then wrote the software, unit tests, automated alarms and
infrastructure resources for monitoring a specialized new server platform. This code and
architecture was being used as the template for our team’s new monitoring solution for other new
server platforms.
AWS Software Development Engineering Intern, Hardware Monitoring Summer 2015
• Statistically analyzed logs that were collected from AWS instances to find differences between
driver message (dmesg) logs from before and after a data center operations repair.
• Used the statistical analysis to add failure notifications that cut tickets to data center technicians to
repair servers that had increased hard drive failure detection rate by 20%.
AWS Software Development Engineering Intern, CodeCommit Summer 2014
• Added code to the client side Ruby (script to fetch a compiled tar object of the entire repository.
• Extended the tar repository creator to recursively fetch any submodules hosted on CodeCommit and
add them into the tar archive.
