Description

Do you need an independent software developer to solve a problem, or do you need to temporarily add qualifications to your existing team?

With more than 25 years of experience in a wide variety of businesses, there is little in terms of applications development I have not tried. I have worked independently, and I have worked in teams. I have worked on small and large projects.

I master several architectural styles, monolithic or distributed event-driven architectures, and can make sound decisions between the two. I master many programming languages as well as paradigm, both object-oriented and functional.

I am a strong practitioner of test-driven development, as this not only leads to fewer bugs and more maintainable code. The primary reason is that the fast feedback loop you get from writing tests first is the most efficient way to write the vast majority of code.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Fixed priced always leads to a conflict of interest between the two parties, customer and supplier. The end result may seem clear in the beginning of the project, but new insights are always gained during a project, resulting in features that originally seemed important to be less so; while important features were never identified originally. On a fixed-price project, the two parties will always come to a disagreement in these cases. The customer want to receive as much as possible within the originally negotiated price; and the supplier want to deliver as little as possible, adhering to the original specification. This problem goes away billing time and material. The customer is always in full control of priorities, and changes to the specification no longer leads to conflicts of interest. As the high priority functionality is addressed at the beginning of the project; you may even be in a situation where you might want to skip or defer the development of low-priority features, resulting in lower development cost. The decision to continue or stop the project is based on actual progress. Does continuing the project still deliver value comparable to the cost of running the project?
